Rep. Sam Johnson talks about Social Security reform

The Dallas Morning News reports that Rep. Sam Johnson, who is the ranking Republican on the House Social Security Subcommittee, is working on a plan to restore the program to long-term solvency.

Republican Rep. Sam Johnson of Plano joined a growing number of prominent lawmakers Thursday pushing Social Security benefit cuts as a way to shore up the entitlement program's teetering financial future. Johnson cautioned that any proposals should not affect current or soon-to-be recipients, but he said that scaling back some Social Security benefits was more sensible than continuing to increase payroll taxes.
